BE ACT mission statement
Why did we found Be ACT?
To promote solidarity and an increased sense of community among citizens and residents. Promoting active citizenship, supporting and giving a voice to those who are least heard.
BE ACT aims to support those who are least able to participate in social debates or to work towards social inclusion, (e.g. those whose language skills interfere with participation, children and youth, elderly, handicapped persons, low income, and immigrants,.)
The support has two branches: Direct provision, working with individuals, families and groups, and indirectly via promotion, lobbying etc. on their behalf for structural changes and improvements.
To promote solidarity and community among citizens and residents in Brussels special attention is given to urban planning and mobility policies. BE ACT aims to act in support of and to promote adoption, application and enforcement of public policies in urban planning and mobility which prioritize the needs and rights of the most vulnerable and least mobile.
How:
Promoting active citizenship by speaking out, arranging workshops, seminars, training sessions, consulting, etc.
Encouraging participation in neighborhood and other local events.
Providing opportunities and supporting participation with special attention to those most vulnerable and/or otherwise least likely to be involved.
Promoting, encouraging and supporting people to vote in elections, to take part in official and unofficial meetings, referenda, neighbourhood and residents’ associations, petitions, polls, surveys.
Lobbying on behalf of those who cannot do so themselves
